Ether Library · one scene from a classic, animated
The eagle that woke with the dawn
“You great star! What would your happiness be if you did not have those for whom you shine!”
And behold! An eagle was sweeping through the air in wide circles, and from it hung a serpent, not like prey but like a friend: for she kept herself coiled around his neck.
Friedrich Nietzsche, Thus Spoke Zarathustra, Prologue 1 and 10 (Ether Library, translated from the German)
For ten years Zarathustra lived in a mountain cave with his eagle and his serpent: the proudest animal under the sun, and the wisest.
This scene joins the sunrise of Prologue 1 to the eagle and serpent of Prologue 10 in one morning. In the book, the eagle circles at noon.
