Certificate of Price

I, Juan Gallo de Andrada, clerk of the Chamber of the King our lord, one of those who sit in his Council, certify and attest that, the lords of the Council having seen a book entitled The Ingenious Hidalgo of La Mancha, composed by Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra, they assessed each sheet of the said book at three and a half maravedís; and the book has eighty-three sheets, so that at the said price the said book comes to two hundred and ninety maravedís and a half, at which it is to be sold in loose sheets; and they gave license for it to be sold at this price, and ordered that this assessment be placed at the beginning of the said book, and that the book not be sold without it. And so that this may stand on record, I issued the present certificate in Valladolid, on the twentieth day of the month of December, in the year one thousand six hundred and four.

Juan Gallo de Andrada.
