Chapter 21

孔德之容,惟道是從。
道之為物,惟恍惟惚。
惚兮恍兮,其中有象;
恍兮惚兮,其中有物。
窈兮冥兮,其中有精;
其精甚真,其中有信。
自今及古,其名不去,以閱眾甫。

The bearing of great virtue follows the Way alone.
The Way, as a thing, is only dim, only blurred.
Blurred, dim, and within it there is an image;
dim, blurred, and within it there is a thing.
Deep, dark, and within it there is an essence;
the essence is utterly real, and within it there is something sure.

How do I know the beginnings of all things are so?
By this.
